Affordable Fashion For Less
Posted by admin in Fashion Style on December 30, 2011
Everybody wants to look good and fashionable. For most, this means watching the designer’s up and coming collections for what is in style. Unfortunately, most ordinary people are limited to the chain boutiques and department stores. But you can get affordable fashion for less money IF you know where, and when, to look.
Every year, the industry’s biggest designers come up with a new line of clothing. These lines are showcased at fashion shows in major cities like Los Angeles or New York. Well that’s all great and good but the ordinary person (you or me) can’t even get in the door at those fashion shows. Even if we could, we wouldn’t be able to afford the designer price tags!
So what happens is boutiques and fashion stores across the country buy lots of the new line items. Sometimes they purchase too much and end up with a surplus at the end of the season.
What do you think these stores do with the surplus goods?
Answer: They sell them at a deeply discounted price to retail outlets or to online inventory liquidators.
In either case, the shopper ends up with a piece of high fashion at a retail store price. That can be a significant saving.
Where to look
Final stop stores as well as retail outlets in some cases. Some retail outlets have celebrities with their own line of clothing. For instance, Topshop has a line of Kate Moss clothing.
Don’t rule out the second hand stores either! These places can have new items on the rack at any time.
When to look
The best time to buy winter clothes is in the summer. The idea is to shop for your seasonal clothing or items out of season or at the end of each of the seasons. For example, it is common to find winter coats at a deep discount in March each year.
Remember to shop out of the season you are in at the moment. The savings can be fantastic and you may be pleasantly surprised at what you can find available.
Adding to the possibilities is the advent of shopping online, which has its own sets of advantages. You can find deals on designer fashions that are only available online. There are no lines to contend with, cash to carry around (or lose!), no “stock outs” to deal with, no driving miles to the next store just to be disappointed and no parking problems, not to mention the fuel money savings.
Plus, you can shop online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from the comfort of your home. Imagine trying to walk through those big superstores in your PJs!
The main point of the whole thing is this: You can get great deals on BIG fashion by being smart and watching the calendar. If you visit the store, know when to go, what you are going for and where you can find it for the lowest price. If you shop online, the sky is the limit!
Behind the Scenes at a Fashion Show
Posted by admin in Fashion Style on December 30, 2011
Ever wondered what lies behind the glitz and glamor of a fashion show? If you watch fashion shows on TV, no doubt the grandeur and style of the whole event would have impressed you. If you were lucky enough to watch the action live, the atmosphere can be overwhelming. If putting together a fashion show looks easy then, it is all thanks to a hardworking, 24-hour event management team that is usually the brains and hands behind such a glamorous do.
Before the concept for a fashion show can be decided upon, the designer has to decide on the kind of collection he wants and then create an initial portfolio. Designers get inspired by anything and most of them weave the designs and patterns in their clothes around a single theme; for example, symmetric patterns with earth colors for an autumn collection. Whether the collection featured is going to be Ready to Wear or Haute Couture also needs to be finalized. Once the collection is ready, the next decision to make is where to feature the collection and when. Cities such as Paris, Milan and London have been called the world’s fashion hotspots for many years. Most designers have their favorite places, depending where the bulk of their clientele comes from. Once the city is decided upon, setting up the stage and ramp for the event comes next. Location is of utmost importance- halls or stadiums which offer the latest in lighting and other facilities give creators the freedom to plan a great theme. For instance, chandeliers and other fancy lighting can help jazz up a room immensely.
The theme often sets the tone for the collection and for the evening as well. What’s a fashion show without music? The genre of music played can help bring out the best in the collection and set the tone for the evening. Those who can afford it even hire live singers or DJ’s. Needless to say, the music changes with the mood of the collection and also for the intended clientele. Deciding on the models is next. Of late, a lot of designers venture to create fashion for ‘real women’, and so models who aren’t exactly a size zero are quite common. Make up artists and hair stylists work tirelessly to create a new look or hairdo to match the clothes and style quotient. The guest list is important too. After all, no designer wants to miss out on inviting his best clients to his show. That’s where the paparazzi and the media come in too. After all, more the media coverage, the better the exposure the designer and his collection gets. The front row is where you are most likely to see fashion editors and other style experts, jot down notes, shake their heads or just observe. Fashion shows of veteran designers like Valentino or Versace however, are bound to get a full house no matter how small or big the collection really is. Cocktails, a lavish buffet, live TV appearances and interviews are the preferred norm to end such a star studded event.

Malan Breton Amazes Fashion Crowd At the Fall NYC Fashion Show
Posted by admin in Fashion Style on December 30, 2011
It’s that fantastic time of year yet again, where the crowds of journalists and fashion lovers hover over the ranges from the elite fashion designers at the NYC fall fashion show. Many have reported that one of the most distinctly amazing shows was the Malan Breton who flaunted his contemporary Japanese range for fall 2011.
Not any old mere fashion show, Malan Breton’s range was an event to behold in fashion history, with the star piece being the Japanese wedding. Building up to the wedding, the beautiful range was serious, contemporary but flowing with a Japanese influence. A mixture of kimonos with formal elegance, tailored outfits and a monochrome colour array, made this range have a distinct contemporary but traditional feel to it.
Malan Breton never fails to ‘wow’ his audience, and this was no exception. Adding his distinct but ingenious style to the range, the Japanese wedding saw amazing silhouettes and curves created by luxurious flowing silks and laces, as well as feathers. It gave the range an amazing natural feminine feel, with a contemporary modern twist.
The colour palette was vibrant but dark. Several colours were key to his range this season, including glossy jewel reds, glossy whites, glossy blacks and bright jewel blues. Used often together they gave off a dramatic monochrome effect. A few unusual pieces were also shown off with pride, including bright red sequin trousers, black lacy kimono bed ware and a feather skirt.
The real piece de resistance was of course the main theme, Japanese wedding. Beautifully dressed head to foot in a vibrant red silky dress, with ribbons and two delicate straps, the main feature looked amazing. A veil and ruby red gloves complimented her waist clinching dress that has an extraordinary contemporary elegance to it.
The Breton show was a real success, bringing alive the beauty of traditional Japanese modern ware in a contemporary and modern style. It gave real insight into this fall’s style of feminine beauty combined with the contemporary modern tailored style, which is to become one of the favoured and influential styles of 2011.
The New York fashion show has demonstrated that this year that many already famous designers are still creating new innovative styles that can still ‘wow’ an audience and remain wearable on a daily basis. More and more designers are reinventing past styles for their ranges, giving a modern but elegant twist to this decade and cultural bound style.
